Bay Area Diving

Feb. 7th, 2005 09:41 am Pt. Lobos revisited!

So went to the Kelptomaniacs (Wallins Dive club) dive on sat morning to Pt. Lobos. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this site.

We get there, the air temp is a cool 58. We suit up and hop in, the water temp is 57 on the surface and the vis is.....................40+ feet!! INSIDE THE COVE!

What a great day to dive. Took some decent photo's, I'll post here later this week. The Sheepshead were huge! Saw a seal, a few otters, and had a great time.

The second dive the storm surge started to come in and we got beat around a bit, but still had a really great time.

Anyone up for a night dive at Breakwater on SAt the 12th?

Jan. 3rd, 2005 03:00 pm Starting the year out right.

So I got up early New Years Day and got to dive Pt. Lobos, FINALLY!!!

What an incredible dive site!!! I can't wait to dive it again!!! (Fe 20th from the looks of it!! hehehehe)

Long surface swim, but we dropped down in about 50 feet and had 30' vis on the bottom. My max depth for the dive was 68 feet and it was a long swim back, but pretty easy and well worth it.

Everything there is HUGE!!! I saw a lemon dorid that was the size of a Gerbil!! I'm not kidding it was bigger than my fist! and the blue rock fish, sheeps-head and vermilion rock fish were twice the size of anywhere else in Monterey. I hope the rest of you get a chance to dive this incredible spot sometime in the near future.

Happy New Year all!!! May the diving this year be better than ever for you!!

Dec. 21st, 2004 09:52 am Diving and underwater photography

So I got a digital Camera for underwater pictures while I was in Hawaii.

I bought the DC310 kit from ReefMaster. It's a 3megapixel camera, with armored housing, external strobe, 3x macro lens and I bought the wide angle lens.

I shot some pics with it and let me tell you, underwater photography is NOTHING like regular photography, most of the pics were blurry or over/under exposed. I'm definitely going to need a class soon!

Here are 2 of them after a little clean up...

Zebra Eel in Oahu

Pincushion Star, it was like a foot across and about 5 inches thick!

Dec. 20th, 2004 01:00 am Hello...

I just happened to stumble across the group and thought I would help support.

I've only been diving since the end of August, but I absolutely LOVE it. I have Advanced NAUI Cert. and have logged 14 dives so far.

I plan on taking Rescue Diver when I get back from Cozumel in Feb. and am toying with the idea of going for Dive Matster after that.

I (and my friend I got certified with) am always keeping an eye open for new dive buddies. Its nice to meet people who have the same passion and it would be nice to have someone else to dive with when my friend cant make it.

Jun. 17th, 2004 02:40 pm howdy

woo! Looks like I'm the second member? Hopefully this is (or will be?) an active community. Of course, if I find just one person to dive with, that will be enough.

About me:
I've only been diving since last fall, but I'm now PADI Advance Open Water certified. My experience is all of 11 dives, all in Thailand. But I'm not at all put off by the conditions here. In fact, with the right gear I'm willing to try anything - cold, night, murky, deep. I've wanted to be a diver my whole life, and just got started, but I plan to make it a hobby that I do as frequently as I can. Hooking up with other regular divers is the first step! I live in East Oakland, work in Downtown SF. In the past few months I bought a house, so funds are a little tight, but I'm dying to get in the water again soon. Also, I don't currently own my gear except a mask, snorkel, and a dive computer. I'm interested in some advice about what gear to buy next, and where to get it.

Hope to hear from some other local divers soon!

Best ~ AB

May. 14th, 2004 09:52 am Diving on Sunday...

Ok, so a buddy, Martin, and I are diving the wrecks at Del Monte Beach in Monterey on Sunday Morning. Then doing a second dive somewhere? Monestary maybe? We'll see what conditions are like.

Anyone else interested?

May. 10th, 2004 10:39 am Welcome & greetings!

My name is Morgan. I've been diving since 1989, around the world, and the Monterey/SF Bay Area for the last year or so.

This is a brand new community on LJ. It's for those of us that just can't get enough of the Beautiful Pacific Ocean, the sea life here or the wonderful experiences we all have diving.

Please feel free to join, post comments, pictures, find a dive buddy, tell your friends, complain about the vis (like any of us would do such a thing!) Lets make this a fun, friendly community for all of us California Divers!
